Thanks for dropping by. I hope enjoy your visit and gain a better understanding of what Islam is about.
You might be asking yourself: Why would any
woman, in her right mind, ever want to be part of something so
"oppressive"? What would drive this average,
Catholic-raised, American, white-chick to Islam? Had she flipped her wig?
She must have been doing this for some guy...
Since I was married to an average
Protestant-raised, American, white-guy, doing it for some
"Arab" wasn't it. Believe it or not, a lot of women come to
Islam by themselves so, please don't automatically
assume that's she's married to a Muslim (or even married at all) just
because she's a Muslim. ;)
Women's rights is the main thing that drew me to
Islam. I had the same pre-conceived notions as you did. The status of
women in Islam is nothing like they tell you in the sensationalist
media. In fact, it's the opposite. When I discovered the truth behind
the issue, I was flabbergasted.
Although I was raised Catholic, I didn't
practice it and I really didn't have any type of religion at all. I most
certainly wasn't looking for religion either, however, the women's
issues peaked my curiosity so much that I had to know about the other
stuff.
What do they think about God? What
do they believe about Jesus? I had to find out so, I did. To my
amazement (again) what they thought about this stuff was already what I
was thinking on my own...
...but that still wasn't enough to convince me
until...
...I'm sure you've heard of the recent discovery
called the "Big Bang Theory" and what is the first thing we
look for on other planets when seeking life? Water...
" Do not the
Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as
one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water
every living thing. Will they not then believe?"
[Holy Qur'an 21:30]
It took us over 1400 years, but we're starting
to catch up with what Allah has already told us. Islam has never
conflicted with scientific fact. What a concept!
Verse 21:30 was the clincher for me. When I read
the above verse, it was at that moment that I believed. Resistance was
futile and I was assimilated on August 13, 1999.
